Likewise, the organizers saw fit to providing a pleasant escape from the regimen of keynote speakers and seminar presenters. Here, the Constitution prepares to take the lot of us out of Coal Harbour, through Burrard Inlet, and around to English Bay. But it Wasn't All Work

Vancouver from the Harbour
Vancouver from the Harbour
As the cruise begins, rounding Hallelujah point, we see the skyline and the waters of Coal Harbour beneath a westering sun still fairly high in the evening sky.

This is another one of my favorite pictures from the trip, and as always, seemed to be just a spontaneous thing. The BC flag unfurled lazily in the evening breeze, seemingly a template for the evening sky: rays of the setting sun set against bands of pale blue and white, with fog-shrouded Vancouver Island marking the horizon.... Solitary Moment of Sunset
Solitary Moment of Sunset
Just another view of the setting sun from English Bay, seconds before it dipped beneath Vancouver Island.

As the sky deepened and the sunset's fiery glow intensified, I managed to capture this shot in Burrard Inlet. Prospect point merges with the more distant mountain range behind North Vancouver, and one of the towers of Lion's Gate bridge stands alone above the horizon of trees. Reddening Sunset

Shrouded in Dusk
Shrouded in Dusk
The dinner excursion nearly over, we return to Coal Harbour and the Vancouver city centre skyline illuminated now only by the pale western sky.
