Rothenburg's charm, and the absence of vehicular traffic, makes it an excellent place to capture at night.

Markus Tower at night

Just like the White Tower, Markus Tower used to be part of the old city defenses, but when Rothenburg's perimeter grow, found itself in the middle of town. You can just imagine the night watchman making his rounds (albeit, without the aid of electrical light...) Actually, though, there are nighttime tours by a tourguide accoutred as a night watchman. His tours, alternately in French, German, and English, offer a glimse at the Rothenburg that once was.

Fountains, the life of the ancient city during the day, take on a life of their own with night photography. The long exposure time makes the water surface smooth, and the pouring streams of water appear as ribbons of glass.
