Many Hidden Jewels |
Assorted Sights around the City |
What you've seen so far is nowhere near all of the city... There are many neighborhoods and districts, and they each have their own, unique character.
Palace of Fine Arts |
Once part of the Panama-Pacific Exposition (1915) this ornate structure was not originally designed to last, being built of a temporary medium, "staff," a mixture of plaster and fiber. After the Expo, the hall behind the rotunda was used alternately for tennis courts, limousine motor-pool for the newly formed United Nations, and during World War II, trucks and jeeps were stored within. Nowadays, this complex is home to several venues, including the Exploratorium, a hands-on museum of science and exploration (and a great place to take the curious!) |
One of the many churches in San Francisco, St. Mark's Cathederal is certainly one of the more ornate. Seen here on a winter evening, the sun's westering glow makes the bright red brick truly stand out. |

St. Mary's Cathederal |
In comparison to St. Mark's (just across the street,) St. Mary's lines are decidedly more contemporary. |
This colorful Pagoda adorns the shore of Stow Lake, in the heart of Golden Gate Park, a beautiful wilderness within the city. |
